My UCSF Internship: Spencer Wright

“For this past fall, I’ve had the pleasure of working for UCSF in their archives. The projects that I’ve had the privilege of working on include the Google books digitization project, helping organize and catalogue DVDs and VHS tapes related to the Legacy Tobacco Documents Library, along with helping find other academic archives to augment UCSF’s own HIV/AIDS collection. As someone planning to become a librarian, I found these experiences immensely rewarding.
Perhaps my favorite project out of these was the Google books digitization project. While many people would hesitate at the thought of wandering through shelves of old books for several hours on end being an enjoyable experience, I found it to be wonderful. I enjoyed the opportunity to spend all that time roaming the shelves and going through all the books and texts, getting excited every time I recognized a certain title or author (though admittedly, most of the books I recognized were largely limited to the works of Freud and Jung).
My internship this past fall at UCSF has been wonderful.”
